At the national scientific center of maternity and childhood there was conducted a two-day seminar on medical waste control within the bounds of TOXCARE project on dangerous substances and medical waste control.
The Committee of national sanitary-epidemiological control organized the given seminar with assistance of the Basel economical enterprise, for the aim of implementation of the Ministry of Public Health College’s regulation N19 from 14.12.2007
In the work of seminar were involved: collaborators of the Ministries of Public Health of RK and Environmental Protection, experts from Switzerland as well as collaborators of the oblast agency of the Ministry of Public Health, state sanitary-epidemiological control authorities and epidemiologists of republic, oblast and municipal medical organizations.
During the seminar there was discussed one of the principal problems in the field of health protection – collection and calculation of medical organizations’ waste, which remains as a result of their activity and transportation of that waste.
In the Republic more than 12 thousand of treatment-and-prophylaxis institutions render assistance to population of the Republic, including about 1000 hospitals, 2000 outpatients' clinics and about 9000 objects of realization and manufacture of pharmaceutical production. In those institutions there are various practices of collection, processing and moving away medical waste. In accordance with report information from regions, every year at the average up to 28 tons of medical waste have been generating for 24 hours, including waste of the following threat groups: A – 11.2 tons, B – 14.2 tons, C – 2 tons and D – 0.5 tons.
In 2006 year at medical organizations of the Republic 9525 tons of waste were generated. For the analogical period in 2007 29 400 tons were generated, that is in the issue of calculation regulation and medical waste moving, quantity of medical waste has increased in 3 times. During the seminar there were discussed problems of medical tampering safety organization. Workers of public health and medical organizations of the Republic were acquainted with international and national experience and practice of medical waste utilization. Were discussed technical problems, concerning medical waste control on the level of municipal and rural medical organizations.
Participants of the seminar made a plan on development perspectives of the Kazakhstan system of medical waste utilization; methods of forming of organizational basis for further reformation of legislation and creation of technical facilities in the country for medical waste safe control. Also there was suggested to develop EFT on collection and utilization of medical waste in Astana and 1 or 2 oblasts of our country.
